Recipes using Navara Rice

Navara Payasam


  • Navara rice-1 cup (200gms)
  • Jaggery/brown sugar-1/2 cup (100gms)
  • Milk-1 cup (200ml)
  • Cardamom-2 gms
  • Cashew-10 nos
  • Ghee-2 tablespoons
  • Water-4 cups (800ml)


  1. Rinse and soak the rice for 15 minutes
  2. Grind it coarsely
  3. In a clay pot, add this rice mixture
  4. Add water (1 cup rice mix means 5 cups of water. You can add 4 cups of water and 1 cup of milk) and cook the mixture.
  5. Let it cool for 15 minutes
  6. Now add jaggery or brown sugar
  7. Check the sweetness and add milk.
  8. Add cardamom powder
  9. Fry the cashews and chironji seeds in ghee
  10. Add this fried nuts and coconut to payasam.
  11. Yummy delicious payasam is ready

Tip: Instead of milk, you can add coconut milk but make sure to prepare it in a heavy bottomed pan or kadai.
